OpenAI has added a Data agent to ChatGPT Work, giving employees a conversational way to query approved company data and turn the results into interactive dashboards.
The agent connects to sources including Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB, Snowflake and Datadog, and can also pull files from Google Drive and SharePoint. OpenAI says it can use business definitions and semantic context from systems such as dbt, Snowflake Horizon, Databricks Genie Ontology and existing BI dashboards.
The product is designed to preserve the permissions of the connected account, including table-, row- and column-level controls. It can also work with existing BI applications rather than requiring a separate analytics stack. Independent coverage confirms that the feature is shipping as the Data plugin inside ChatGPT Work rather than as a separate consumer product.
For AiToolMap, this is a material update to ChatGPT because it adds a governed enterprise analytics workflow spanning data retrieval, analysis, dashboard creation and approved downstream actions. OpenAI's internal-adoption examples remain vendor-reported context rather than independent performance evidence.
