Universal Music Group and ElevenLabs announced a multi-year agreement on September 10 to develop a licensed AI music creation platform for fans. The planned service is intended to let users create remixes, mashups, alternative interpretations and personalized vocal experiences using music from participating artists and songwriters.

UMG says artist participation will be opt-in and the agreement also covers additional AI audio products and fan experiences. The Verge independently reported the partnership and noted that the platform is part of a broader licensing push by the music industry around generative AI.

The product is still in development, so AiToolMap is treating this as an announced future platform rather than a generally available ElevenLabs feature. UMG also states that it will be offered separately from ElevenLabs’ current Music API and ElevenMusic products, which means current ElevenLabs capabilities should not be described as already including the licensed UMG catalogue.

For AiToolMap, the significance is the shift from unlicensed or ambiguously licensed generative-music workflows toward a product explicitly built around rights-holder agreements and artist participation. The announcement is relevant to ElevenLabs’ product direction, but availability, catalogue breadth, pricing and real-world output quality remain unresolved until the platform launches.
