Google has launched the Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and 11, expanding the native desktop experience it introduced on macOS earlier this year. The app can be summoned over active work with Alt + Space, so users can ask for help without first switching to a browser window.
The Windows app can use connected Google services such as Gmail and Drive for tasks including retrieving details and drafting summaries. It also exposes image generation through Nano Banana and supports Gemini Spark for longer, multi-step work where the feature is available under the user's plan and region.
Google says the app is available now for both personal Google accounts and Google Workspace customers with Gemini enabled. Workspace administrators can manage access through existing generative-AI controls. Google describes this as the beginning of the app's native Windows capabilities, so features listed as coming later should not be treated as already available.
Independent coverage confirms the Windows rollout and the Alt + Space interaction model. It also notes that the current client remains closer to Gemini's web interface than a deeply OS-integrated assistant, which makes Google's promised future native capabilities an important distinction for buyers evaluating the desktop experience today.
The release matters because Gemini is moving from a browser destination into an always-available desktop surface on Windows. For AiToolMap, the current product boundary is clear: the Windows client is shipping now, while deeper native integrations remain a future roadmap rather than a present capability.
