Google launches Gemini 3.8 Live and Live Extended Thinking

Google announced Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking on September 15, 2026. Gemini 3.8 Live targets fast, scalable dialogue with near-real-time visual grounding, automatic switching among 97 supported languages, and background tool/API calls that do not interrupt conversation. Extended Thinking targets more complex multi-step workflows and can reason while speaking. Both began rolling out through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio; enterprise availability starts in private preview, while consumer surfaces include Search Live and Gemini Live, with additional Workspace availability depending on plan.
