Instacart launched Clementine on September 9, bringing a conversational AI shopping assistant to its Marketplace customers across the U.S. and Canada. The assistant can turn meal ideas, recipes or grocery lists into a personalized cart, while also helping users plan meals, compare options and work within a budget.
Clementine sits inside Instacart’s existing app and website rather than operating as a separate general-purpose assistant. A shopper can start with a request such as a meal plan or a list of ingredients, refine the result through conversation and then add suggested products to a cart. Instacart’s help documentation notes that availability may still vary by user.
The launch also connects Instacart’s consumer and enterprise AI strategy. The same underlying shopping technology is being extended to retailers through Cart Assistant, which lets grocers offer similar conversational shopping functions on their own websites and apps.
The material change is Clementine’s move into live consumer availability across North America. Independent coverage from TechCrunch corroborates the launch and its core cart-building workflow. Performance claims, however, still come from Instacart rather than independent testing, so the release is best read as a product-availability milestone rather than evidence of measured shopping gains.
