Microsoft AI has published the first draft of its Humanist AI Code of Conduct for public consultation. The document is intended to become a governing framework for the behavior and values of Microsoft AI’s MAI model family, although Microsoft says current models are not yet trained on it. The draft emphasizes meaningful human control, non-resistance to interruption or shutdown, hard safety constraints and a hierarchy of Microsoft rules, operator configuration and user preferences. Microsoft says consultation will run for six weeks, with a revised version planned for later in 2026 and intended to guide model development from 2027 onward.
