OpenAI has released ChatGPT Images 2.5, updating both image generation and editing across ChatGPT and its developer APIs.

The most visible addition is Sketch, which lets users draw a rough reference directly in ChatGPT and turn it into a generated image. OpenAI has also added reusable templates, comment-based edits and prompt sharing.

The underlying model is intended to preserve recognizable subjects and prior edits more reliably across multiple turns. OpenAI says generation latency is up to 50% lower than Images 2.0, although that figure is a company benchmark rather than an independent measurement.

Developers get two variants: GPT-Image-2.5 Flare for faster generation and GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst for more controlled, detailed work. The update therefore affects both the consumer editing workflow and the API product surface.
