Roland releases Melody Flip, a free AI-assisted music-idea plug-in built with Sony CSL

Roland has released Melody Flip, an AI-assisted music-production plug-in developed with research from Sony Computer Science Laboratories. The product is not positioned as an autonomous song generator. Instead, it is designed to help producers get past the blank-page stage by suggesting musical starting points that remain editable inside a normal DAW workflow.\n\nMelody Flip has two main entry paths. Users can browse more than 250 prebuilt Palettes spanning genres and styles, or import a reference track, loop or beat. Roland says the software analyzes the reference audio for structure, tempo, beat positions, key, chord progression, genre and mood, then recommends Palettes with related musical characteristics. From there it generates coordinated melody, chord, bass and drum parts that can be auditioned, changed and exported as audio or MIDI.\n\nThe current release is available through Roland Cloud Manager on every membership tier, including the free tier. Roland’s product page lists VST3 and AU support on current macOS and Windows 11 systems, while current support documentation confirms common WAV/AIFF/MP3 import formats and AAC on macOS.
