Roland has released Melody Flip, an AI-assisted music-production plug-in developed with research from Sony Computer Science Laboratories.
Rather than generating a finished song from a text prompt, Melody Flip is designed to produce editable starting points. Users can choose from more than 250 musical Palettes or import a reference track, loop or beat. The software analyzes musical characteristics and proposes coordinated melody, chord, bass and drum parts.
Generated ideas can be edited and exported as audio or MIDI for use in a normal DAW workflow. The plug-in is available through Roland Cloud Manager on the free tier as well as paid memberships, with VST3 and AU support on current Windows and macOS systems.
There is an important workflow limitation: Roland says Melody Flip does not support complete project-state recall, so users should export ideas they want to preserve before closing or resetting a session.
