Maxxwell by Rindler is a local desktop app and CLI for developers who run multiple coding-agent sessions at once. The current release can start an interactive session using an installed Claude Code or Codex runtime, show local fleet/session records and provide a desktop IDE surface around those sessions.12
The homepage presents a conductor-style workflow for keeping many sessions visible and surfacing the ones that need human attention.3 For rating purposes, the more conservative current documentation is authoritative: it explicitly says automatic goal auditing, correcting drift and restarting bloated sessions are product direction rather than claims about the current downloadable release.1 That distinction matters because Maxxwell is most useful today as an orchestration and visibility layer, not as proof that fully autonomous supervision is already mature.
Maxxwell currently advertises itself as free forever for individuals and paid for teams.3 No numeric team price was published on the reviewed first-party surfaces, so the individual proposition is easy to evaluate while team economics remain opaque.
The current v0.1.15 release is downloadable for macOS, Linux and Windows.3 The CLI can reuse an installed Claude Code or Codex sign-in rather than copying those credentials into a separate Maxxwell account.2 Users can also configure provider API keys for supported local inference paths, but provider credentials and vendor subscription terms remain separate.4
Maxxwell has an unusually clear local-first privacy statement. Rindler says the desktop app has no Maxxwell account or server, no application analytics or crash-reporting SDK, and does not receive source code, prompts, diffs, transcripts or provider credentials. Model traffic goes to the model provider selected by the user under that provider's terms.5
That is a strong transparency signal, but it does not eliminate the permission risks of the underlying coding agents, which still operate with whatever filesystem, environment and tool access those runtimes have. The current docs explicitly tell users to follow each vendor's supported authentication path and not assume one provider's subscription credentials may be reused elsewhere.4
Rindler is an active Y Combinator Summer 2026 company, and YC independently corroborates Maxxwell's multi-agent orchestration positioning.6 The fixed 50-source panel found no current exact-product review, benchmark or numeric user-rating corpus: 43 sources returned no relevant result and 7 were inaccessible on the lawful retrieval path. Missing external evidence is treated as absent evidence, not a negative score.
Maxxwell is best for developers who already use Claude Code or Codex and routinely run enough parallel sessions that terminal switching, status checking and small interruptions become the bottleneck.32 The local model is particularly attractive to users who do not want a new hosted control plane holding their code or transcripts.5
It is less suitable for teams that need a mature enterprise orchestration product, published team pricing, long-lived resumable conversations or independently validated reliability. The quickstart notes that the current interactive conversation lives in the running process and is not resumable after a restart, while the fleet view reads existing records rather than itself proving an automatic supervisor is running.2
