NeuralBox review

Updated 2026-09-05

Product & capabilities

NeuralBox by NeuralCam is an AI photo gallery built for the utility images that normally clutter a phone: receipts, screenshots, documents, clothes, packaging and visual references. Capture routes include the in-app camera, gallery import, Share extension, document scanning, a lock-screen widget and screenshot auto-import. Retrieval combines semantic image search, OCR text search and visually similar-image browsing, allowing users to search by what an image contains rather than by folders or manual tags. The free plan keeps photos locally and includes the main AI-search/capture workflow; Plus adds document scanning, 50 GB cloud storage, optimized local storage, multi-device sync and watermark-free sharing. 12

Pricing & access

NeuralBox is free to download and usable without Plus. Pricing is genuinely channel-specific rather than one globally consistent figure. The current NeuralCam product page lists Plus at $5.99/month, while the US App Store lists $4.99/month or $49.99/year; other storefronts expose local-currency equivalents. AiToolMap therefore reports the vendor and storefront prices separately rather than selecting one as universally canonical. The app is designed for iPhone. Apple lists compatibility with Apple-Silicon Macs and Apple Vision, but explicitly says it is designed for iPhone/not verified as a native macOS experience, so those compatibility entries are not treated as equivalent native platforms. 12

Evidence & trust

The current US App Store shows 3.9/5 from 24 ratings. That is an exact-product signal but a small sample, so it receives limited external weight. Visible review themes are mixed: some users report the free version working well, while older reviews criticize repetitive notifications and workflow limitations; the version history also documents several search/stability/performance fixes. Laptop Mag's 2023 coverage independently supports the core visual-memory use case and product identity but is too old to validate today's sync, storage or reliability. The fixed 50-source panel found no other exact current evaluative source. 23

Privacy transparency is the weaker part of the evidence. Apple states that contact information, photos/videos, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics may be collected but not linked to identity for app functionality, analytics or other purposes. The privacy policy linked by the current product still calls the service “PhotoBrain” and was last updated in July 2023. It provides GDPR/CCPA rights, retention and security language, but it predates the current NeuralBox Plus cloud/sync positioning and does not provide a sufficiently product-specific cloud-retention/security architecture to infer stronger safeguards. 24

Who it's for

NeuralBox is best for iPhone users who repeatedly save screenshots, receipts, document photos, packaging, clothes or inspiration images and later struggle to find them. Students, creators, researchers, shoppers and knowledge workers can benefit from capture-first behavior followed by semantic/OCR retrieval instead of manual filing. The free local-storage tier makes the idea easy to test. It is a weaker fit for Android users, teams needing shared enterprise knowledge management, or users who require current detailed cloud-security and retention documentation before syncing sensitive personal documents. 124

Strengths & weaknesses

Strengths

The strength is the simplicity of the mental model: capture anything potentially useful and rely on AI/OCR to retrieve it later. Multiple capture paths, local free storage, semantic search, screenshot automation and similarity browsing make NeuralBox more purpose-built for visual recall than a generic photo gallery. The

Weaknesses

evidence scale and trust documentation. The current App Store rating sample is only 24, the Plus price differs by channel, and the linked privacy policy still carries the old PhotoBrain name while Plus now includes cloud storage and cross-device sync. NeuralBox is therefore a useful niche visual second brain, but privacy-sensitive users should understand the current cloud behavior before moving important documents into Plus. 1243
