Onplana review

Updated 2026-09-08

Product & capabilities

Onplana is an AI-native project and portfolio management platform positioned as a Microsoft Project Online replacement. Its current product surface combines traditional PM/PMO capabilities—Gantt and critical-path scheduling, four dependency types, baselines, sprints, portfolios, resource planning, governance, dashboards, document collaboration and reporting—with AI functions such as plan generation, risk detection, task recommendations, natural-language task creation, status summaries and report drafting.12

Migration is a central part of the product rather than a side feature. Onplana currently documents native .mpp, Microsoft Project XML, Primavera XER and Project Online OData import. It also exposes API tokens, webhooks on paid tiers and a public MCP surface so external agents and coding assistants can interact with project work. The product's agent model is explicitly review-oriented: agent outputs are presented as drafts for human ratification rather than being described as autonomously authoritative.13

The overall capability surface is broad enough to compete as a full project-management system, not merely an AI assistant layered over task lists. Still, AiToolMap has not performed a hands-on migration, scheduling-accuracy test, agent reliability test or enterprise deployment validation, so claims about migration speed, provider failover and operational robustness remain first-party unless independently corroborated.

Pricing & access

Onplana publishes six tiers with no forced seat minimum on self-serve plans. The current official pricing page lists Free at $0; Starter at $7 per seat/month; Professional at $12; Business at $20; Enterprise at $29; and Enterprise+ as contact-sales. Annual billing is advertised at 20% off.2

The current Free tier supports 5 team members, 2 projects and 300 MB storage, includes core project-management features, native import options, AI chat with a one-time 100K-token bonus, two-factor authentication and API tokens. Paid tiers progressively add sprints/resource planning, advanced AI, webhooks/integrations, portfolio and governance features, SSO/SCIM, audit logs, IP allowlisting and higher limits. Enterprise+ adds self-hosting and customer-managed-key options.2

Onplana also states that included AI-token allocations are one-time bonuses rather than recurring monthly allowances; additional usage is handled through prepaid top-ups or plan changes. That matters for cost comparison because the nominal seat price does not by itself describe long-run AI consumption. Buyers with high AI usage should model token top-ups separately.2

Evidence & trust

Onplana provides unusually detailed first-party product, pricing, security and protocol information. Its facts page documents dual Claude/Azure OpenAI use, API/MCP authentication modes, migration formats, enterprise controls and an open-source MCP-server component. These details improve technical transparency, but they remain vendor documentation and are not proof of production reliability or migration accuracy.3

The fixed independent panel surfaced one exact Onplana G2 review. G2 marks it as a validated current user and also as an incentivized review. The product surface shows 5.0/5 from one review. AiToolMap retains that review as qualitative evidence only: n=1 is too small to infer broad user satisfaction, and the incentivized acquisition path further limits confidence.4

Capterra has an exact Onplana profile but currently shows zero user reviews. Its surfaced product/pricing metadata also includes quota and token details that do not match the current official pricing page, so AiToolMap does not use it as current pricing evidence or a rating input.52

Across the complete 50-source panel, 41 sources returned no relevant exact-product result and seven canonical domains were crawler-inaccessible. Missing external coverage is neutral; it does not count as a negative score.

Who it's for

Onplana is strongest for PMOs and project teams that need more structure than lightweight task-management tools provide, especially organizations planning a Microsoft Project Online migration. Native .mpp/XML/OData/XER import, critical-path scheduling, portfolio functions, governance workflows and enterprise identity controls make that positioning concrete rather than purely promotional.12

It is also relevant to teams that want AI agents to participate inside project workflows while keeping human review in the loop. MCP connectivity and assignable agent work broaden the product beyond built-in chat, and self-hosting on the highest tier may matter to regulated or infrastructure-sensitive buyers.13

Teams that only need simple kanban/task tracking may find the platform broader than necessary. Conversely, enterprises making a high-stakes migration should validate import fidelity, scheduling semantics, permissions, audit behavior, integration coverage and AI-token economics on representative data before relying on the platform at scale.

Strengths & weaknesses

Strengths

unusually broad PM/PPM functionality; strong Microsoft Project migration emphasis; transparent self-serve pricing and a usable free tier; API tokens and MCP connectivity; built-in AI planning/risk/report functions; enterprise governance/security controls; and a human-ratification model for agent outputs.123

Weaknesses

the independent evidence base is immature; the only surfaced G2 rating is one incentivized review; Capterra has no user-review corpus; some first-party facts and third-party directory metadata have already drifted against current pricing/quotas; and important claims around migration speed, AI failover and operational reliability have not been independently validated in this review.45
