Retensis review

Updated 2026-09-05

Product & capabilities

Retensis has grown beyond a single “AI video score” into a fairly broad creator-intelligence workflow. The core analysis accepts uploaded short-form video or a public YouTube URL, scores hook, pacing, audio, visual clarity and engagement, produces a second-by-second predicted retention curve, flags likely drop-off moments and suggests concrete edits or rewritten hooks. It is optimized for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. 123

The more important differentiator is that Retensis separates prediction from measurement. Its current documentation labels outputs as Measured when they come from connected platform data, Predicted when an AI model estimates the outcome, Grounded when external research is used, and Deterministic when a value is recomputed from stated inputs. Connected-channel features and experiments can use real YouTube or other supported platform observations, while pre-publish retention curves remain estimates from the creative itself. That distinction is materially better than presenting a synthetic retention curve as if viewers had actually watched the video. 43

The platform also includes Creative DNA, creator/competitor research, trend and topic discovery, Hook Writer, Title Lab, Script Coach, Thumbnail/Version tools, Viral Planner, Retensis Agent and—on Team—Ads Studio. Pro users can expose 14 research/create/analyze/upload tools to Claude, ChatGPT or another compatible assistant through Retensis MCP. The MCP endpoint uses OAuth 2.1/scoped authorization and can be revoked. Team workflows add Slack, Discord and signed custom-webhook notifications. 456

Pricing & access

Retensis has a meaningful free tier: two analyses per month, five category scores, a predicted retention curve, a quick improvement summary, one connected channel per supported platform and an initial Creative DNA build, with no credit card required. Basic is $9.99/month for 30 analyses and fuller diagnostic output. Pro is $14.99/month for unlimited analyses, up to five connected channels per platform, the broader AI strategy studios and the 14-tool MCP surface. Team is $34.99/month for the owner plus three teammates, up to ten connected channels per platform, shared history, reporting/CSV, bulk workflows and Ads Studio. 7

At those prices the feature-to-cost ratio is strong, particularly at Pro. The caveat is that low pricing does not prove recommendation quality. The best way to evaluate the product is to use the free allowance and connected-channel measurement to see whether suggested changes correlate with better real performance on the creator’s own library. Current Terms say subscriptions can be cancelled at any time and refunds are handled case by case. 78

Evidence & trust

Retensis publishes more detailed trust documentation than many early creator AI tools. Its Privacy Policy says uploaded videos are stored so users can revisit analyses and retained until the video or account is deleted; videos are not sold or used to train AI models. The service says it may use anonymised aggregated analysis signals to improve predictions and provides an opt-out. Linked videos are read through the relevant platform API rather than downloaded. Connected YouTube, TikTok and Google Ads access is optional and revocable. 98

Team users need to understand the sharing boundary: videos and analyses in a Team workspace are visible to teammates, while Retensis Agent conversations remain private to the individual. Separately authorised MCP clients can read only the scopes the user approves, and Retensis warns that data subsequently read by an external assistant is governed by that third party’s own privacy policy. 95

The central evidence gap is effectiveness, not documentation. The fixed AiToolMap panel found no qualifying exact-product independent review or numeric corpus: 43 source families returned no relevant result and seven domains were inaccessible. Retensis’ own material says its predicted retention is based on patterns associated with high-performing short-form content, but AiToolMap did not find an independent calibration study showing how closely predicted curves match subsequent real viewer retention across creators or platforms. This keeps confidence LOW even though the product surface is coherent and transparent. 23

Who it's for

Retensis is strongest for creators who publish often enough to learn from repeated experiments rather than treating each AI score as an oracle. A solo creator can use Free or Basic to diagnose videos; Pro makes more sense for users who want the research/create suite and assistant integration; Team targets agencies managing multiple creators, ads and shared reporting. 74

It is less suitable for buyers who require independently benchmarked prediction accuracy, a conventional public REST developer API, mature third-party user-review evidence or enterprise assurance certifications before connecting production social accounts. The public MCP surface is useful but is not the same thing as a general developer API. 5

Strengths & weaknesses

Strengths

  • Broad end-to-end creator workflow: analyze, research, create, measure and iterate. 4
  • Explicit distinction between measured platform data and predicted AI outputs. 43
  • Strong value: free evaluation plus $14.99/month Pro with unlimited analyses and MCP. 7
  • 14-tool OAuth-protected MCP integration for Claude, ChatGPT and compatible assistants. 5
  • Detailed privacy/connected-account documentation, including deletion, model-training and team-sharing boundaries. 98
  • Team integrations include Slack, Discord and signed custom webhooks. 6

Weaknesses

  • No qualifying independent exact-product user-review or efficacy corpus was found in the fixed 50-source panel.
  • Predicted retention/drop-off curves have not been independently calibrated in evidence reviewed by AiToolMap. 23
  • Breadth makes the product more complex than a simple pre-publish video checker.
  • No conventional general-purpose public REST developer API was verified; current external automation is primarily MCP and webhooks. 56
  • Low maturity/market evidence keeps rating confidence LOW despite good documentation.
