Retriever AI (rtrvr.ai) review

Updated 2026-09-12

Product & capabilities

What it does

Retriever AI (rtrvr.ai) is a browser and web-automation agent that runs in Chrome or cloud browsers and can also be called through API, MCP, CLI and SDK surfaces. It covers extraction, research, enrichment, outreach, forms, monitoring and repeatable workflows, and can use rtrvr-provided models, existing ChatGPT/Claude access, API keys or compatible local models.

Evidence & trust

Evidence limits

AiToolMap did not execute browser tasks or reproduce the advertised 81.4% WebBench result. The fixed 50-source panel found no eligible exact-product numeric review. Apple App Store search returns a different product called RetrieverAI from Treelo, LLC for universal file search; it is unrelated to rtrvr.ai and excluded. The 8.3 rating is LOW-confidence and not rank eligible.

Safety & Trust

Browser agents can act inside authenticated sessions, submit forms and contact third parties. rtrvr documents remote-browser control, cookie/session sync, triggers, webhooks and API access, so least-privilege sessions and approval boundaries matter. Free Mode is optional and can be disabled; Team/Scale Private Mode states zero workflow data retention and excludes those tasks from derived-simulation use. Teams handling sensitive workflows should prefer Private Mode or tightly controlled local/BYO-provider paths and audit outbound actions. 1 2 3 4

Strengths & weaknesses

Strengths

The product has unusual surface breadth for its price. Current plans are Starter $9.99/month for 1,000 credits, Pro $29.99 for 3,000, Team $99.99 for 10,000 and Scale $499.99 for 50,000; one credit equals one cent. New accounts receive 100 welcome credits, and Free Mode can run everyday AI/browser tasks at zero credits under fair-use limits in exchange for a small sponsored card. BYO ChatGPT, Claude, API-key or local-model usage can remove rtrvr model charges. The same agent can move between signed-in Chrome, unattended cloud work and programmatic product integration.

Weaknesses

Independent validation is thin. rtrvr publishes strong WebBench, speed, cost and run-volume claims, but AiToolMap did not find a fixed-panel independent reproduction of those results. The privacy/cost trade-off also deserves attention: Free Mode can use de-identified cloud workflows to build derived simulation environments, while zero-retention Private Mode is included only on Team and Scale. High-volume automation can also incur credits for cloud-browser time, enrichment and proxy traffic even when model costs are brought separately.
