Runway has added a Model Context Protocol connection that lets compatible AI assistants call its generative-media tools directly from a chat or agent workflow. Runway's setup guide documents connections for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Replit, while noting that any MCP-compatible agent can use the service.
The connection uses Runway account authentication rather than an API key. Generations consume the user's existing Runway credits and are saved to the Runway account. Supported models depend on the account plan and can include Runway models alongside third-party options available through the platform.
For ChatGPT, Runway documents a direct app connection. Claude users can add the MCP endpoint as a connector, while Cursor and Replit can configure the same endpoint in their agent tooling. Runway currently supports Streamable HTTP for MCP rather than SSE or stdio.
This is a material workflow change for the existing Runway product: generation no longer requires switching into the Runway interface or building a separate API integration. AiToolMap therefore treats MCP as an update to Runway rather than a new standalone tool. Availability and model access still depend on the user's Runway plan and credits.
