Agentic SOC investigation capability that plans investigations across connected Proofpoint security data and returns traceable findings with recommended next steps.
Proofpoint SOC Analyst Agent is an agentic investigation layer built by Proofpoint's Applied Services team and powered in part by OpenAI Daybreak cyber models. Analysts can ask a security question in natural language; the agent plans an investigation, pulls context from connected Proofpoint security data, and returns a structured finding with a recommended next step. Investigations can also run on a schedule for workflows such as nightly threat hunts and daily escalation summaries. 1
AiToolMap did not receive preview access, replay a real incident, inspect the agent's reasoning trace, measure time-to-investigation or compare findings with human SOC analysts. The fixed 50-source panel found no eligible exact-product independent review, user-rating corpus or benchmark. OpenAI is a model/technology partner in the Daybreak Defense Network, not an independent evaluator of Proofpoint's product. The 7.8 rating is therefore LOW-confidence and not rank eligible. 3
Safety & Trust
Cybersecurity investigation is high consequence. Proofpoint's source traceability and human-controlled remediation are appropriate safeguards, but organizations should still constrain data/tool access, preserve audit logs, test adversarial and ambiguous cases, validate recommendations against primary telemetry and require established incident-response authorization before any containment or account action. Preview users should treat generated findings as analyst-assistance evidence, not final security truth. 1
Strengths & weaknesses
Strengths
The product is deliberately narrower than an autonomous SOC replacement. Every finding is designed to be traceable back to underlying source data, and Proofpoint explicitly says the agent does not independently disable accounts, block users, contain threats or perform other consequential remediation. Those actions require human review and initiation. For a security agent, that separation between investigation/recommendation and action is a strong design choice. 12
The initial workflow also maps cleanly onto Proofpoint's existing data. Private preview focuses on email DLP, insider threat management and cloud DLP, with alerts, logs, DLP events and user-risk signals available to the investigation. OpenAI's Daybreak partner page independently confirms that Proofpoint is using its cyber capabilities to accelerate investigations and recommend next steps while keeping people in control. 3
Weaknesses
The product is not generally available yet. As of September 12, 2026, Proofpoint describes SOC Analyst Agent as a private preview for selected beta customers, with general availability targeted for the end of Q3 2026 and broader product support planned later. Public pricing is not stated. This means important operational questions—false positives, missed correlations, latency, analyst override patterns, prompt/investigation drift and reliability under noisy production telemetry—do not yet have an independent evidence base. 1
